The BASICS of Supply Chain Management is

  • an entry level certification.

  • knowledge-based and does not necessarily require professional experience.

  • accessible to a person who has his/her A-levels or equivalent (baccalaureat, 12th standard, pre-university) and two additional years of education.

A good knowledge of reading English is required.

All the reading material for the course is in English, the exam comprises 105 multiple choice questions.

MGCM provides a pre-test (understanding of English and of supply chain concepts) for all potential participants.

Duration of the instructor led course

It is estimated that at least two and a half months are necessary to prepare adequately for the BASICS certification.

MGCM normally provides 3 and sometimes 4 days of instructor led instruction over this period (2,5 months).

  • 3 days (21 hours training) + 3 hours for the exam

  • 4 days (28 hours training) + 3 hours for the exam

Exam dates have been fixed for 2013, paper and pencil testing in specific test centres.

APICS will be switching to computer based testing from 2014.

Personal study

Each participant will receive a study program on day 1 which guides him/her on the reading that has to be done. Personal study is estimated at between 3 and 7 hours per week. The number of hours depends on the knowledge and professional experience of the participant at the start of the course.

The instructor’s role is as a guide and change agent. He will provide real life examples from his field experience to illustrate the various themes and subjects that are covered during the course. The course is meant to be interactive, with participants exchanging ideas and networking.

MGCM also has a distance learning course for the BASICS certification.

Customised solutions (a mix of distance learning and instructor led training) are available upon request.
